The regeneration of former quarry workings provides a resource satisfying current governmental policies for both residential and industrial use.
Based on a detailed Desk Study, Geotechnical Appraisal and, where necessary, a Site Contamination Assessment of the former quarry site, TSL prepare a restoration quality assurance plan and specification for the project and deal with the project administration.
The regeneration process comprises the backfilling of the former quarry workings with inert engineered fill materials under the supervision of TSL to ensure that the conformance criteria outlined in the quality assurance plan and specification prepared for the project are achieved. A Restoration Quality Assurance Validation report is provided on completion of the project, a necessary prerequisite for the sale of the site to prospective Developers.
Commencing in 1998, TSL has gained more than 10 years extensive experience in project management and restoration quality assurance (RQA) type site supervision in connection with the remediation or restoration of old mineral quarry workings in order to bring them back to state where reuse of the site for either residential or commercial land use can be achieved.
TSL have a large portfolio of completed regeneration projects commencing with the removal of the final mineral reserves, and ends with the sale of houses. TSL retain a highly experienced team of engineers and site operatives. One example is the remediation of the former Pratt’s Pit and the restoration of Pratt’s Quarry at Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire for the land owners, Arnold White Estates Limited, a residential development which commenced in 1998 and is now nearing completion with some 2,000 houses. We are involved with the on-going remedial works at other disused and working quarries in and around Leighton Buzzard, i.e. Stone Lane and Chamberlains Barn sand quarries and also the former ball clay workings at New Cross Pond and East Golds Void at Kingsteignton, near Newton Abbot, Devon.
