On completion of the Phase 2 intrusive investigation works and any subsequent detailed quantitative risk assessment, the requirement and scope of risk mitigation will be assessed with liaison with the regulatory authorities, such as the Local Authority and the Environment Agency.
A Remediation Options Appraisal is carried out to determine the most suitable method for remediation of the identified liabilities. This is carried out with liaison with the regulating bodies, stakeholders, the client and if deemed necessary, in the case of novel remediation approaches, a Remediation Specialist Contractor.
When an appropriate option is decided a Remediation Method Statement (RMS) can be produced and forwarded to the concerned parties for implementation. Throughout the entire remedial process communication is maintained with and involvement of the regulatory authorities is strongly encouraged.
The actual remediation process should be supervised by a specialist Consultant independent from the developer, be fully documented and validated with chemical testing where appropriate, a photographic record maintained and, on completion, a Remediation Verification Report issued, confirming that the site is suitable for the intended development end-use.
TSL supervise and project manage the remediation process to ensure that the works performed comply with industry standard quality assurance procedures. The scope of the supervision and project management can be flexible, from full project management and supervision by TSL with minimal client involvement to collation of data only from thoroughly documented works carried out by the client for production of the validation report with the associated cost efficiencies.
TSL have experience of carrying out numerous remediation projects from the removal of underground storage tanks and installation of semi-permeable reactive barriers to the supervision of sub-contract remediation specialists carrying out involved processes such as soil vapour extraction.
